The Uncommon Veterinarian
Functional Neurology and Applied Kinesiology for Animals
“We are not finding parts that are “out” and putting them back “in”. We are restoring nervous system function. Stimulate the nerve receptors for specific inputs and the output changes, allowing the motor and autonomic functions to improve.
Less is more. ”

The book
“My Way” is a book about my way of treating animals. I have learned about Functional Neurology, Applied Kinesiology, Chiropractic, Acupuncture, and various other modalities. I ascribe to the 90/10 rule which says that 90% of what you start out doing either doesn’t help or gets in the way. Do the 10%. What I am sharing with you in this book, after many years and tens of thousands of animals, is my 10%.

The backstory
Sid grew up outside of Great Falls, Montana on a farm with sheep, cattle and horses. Being around animals has been a way of life for him. He practiced conventional Veterinary medicine for over two decades, then explored acupuncture and chiropractic before committing to extensive study of Functional Neurology and Applied Kinesiology. He has focused on this exclusively for over 25 years and 55,000 horses and counting.

The belief
A core concept is to realize that you are always treating the whole animal, rather than fixing a part. Any problem, anywhere will involve many other parts until the whole of the animal is involved. If you are not making progress, step back and breathe. Bring this whole animal in front of you back into your awareness. It is never wrong to figure out another way. If the animal is not responding well, try using less energy and notice that often when you do that, you will do more to help.
“Horses don’t like things done TO them.
Do it WITH them and FOR them.
Expect and give respect.
Ask, rather than tell.
Offer, rather than force. .”
— Dr. Sid Erickson
What clients have to say…
I reflect on the years I have known Sid. The beautiful conversations. The miracles I’ve witnessed as he works on a horse. The beauty of watching him and the subtle movements, he tilts his head, talks quietly to himself all the while he is unlocking answers. How much I’ve learned and continue to learn each time he comes to my place. He’s taught me to think out of the box and to have patience. I know him as a healer of horses and other animals. That is how I see this remarkable man and I know am blessed to call him a friend.

Sid looks at the whole picture of how the horse is moving and not just looking at the symptoms, but looking at the root cause. The improvements can accumulate over time. The response from the animals to his work, you know they like it. They say “I want a turn”.
I have known Sid for close to 20 years.”

“Red was just kind of moping around the pasture if that is the clinical horse term, and Sid laying hands on him and working on him and kind of reconnecting things for him and taking some of the pain away literally made him act like he was a brand new horse. His gait was different and better. He perked up quite a bit. He became very alive.
I am a big believer in Sid and his magic hands!”
