“You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, and the only way, it does not exist, there is no ‘The way’ to do anything.”
Sid grew up outside of Great Falls, Montana and graduated with a degree in Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University.
He grew up on a farm with livestock, sheep cattle and horses. His earliest memory of working with horses was holding a bottle when he was four years old for an orphan foal who’s name ultimately became Nuisance. Being around animals has always been a way of life for him.
He practiced in an Equine Clinic in Oregon for 2 years, then moved to Laurel, Montana in a mixed practice doing mostly work with horses. He then went on to practice solo starting in 1981 for 18 years, primarily based in Helena, Montana.
When he realized that he simply could not keep his horses going using only conventional veterinary methods, he explored acupunture and chiropractic before finding Carl DeStefano who was teaching Functional Neurology and Applied Kinesiology.
After many years of studying and a significant financial investment in his learning, the phone started to ring for him to work on horses using these techniques.
Now, over 55,000 horses later (that’s not counting the dogs, cats, cows and other animals he has helped), Sid is sharing his knowledge and skills so that more people can help more horses.
Sid is working on a book called My Way, with the hope of helping more horses by sharing his work. Kris Laroche is his collaborator on this project.
“My Way”-a book about Sid Erickson’s way of supporting horse’s coming soon!
Kris asked Sid if he would teach her this work and she would help him write his book, in exchange. Since 2021 she has been recording conversations, taking notes, and getting as much of his brilliance onto paper as possible. Stay tuned, we are getting close!
In the meantime, they have developed OUR WAY a bodywork routine taught in clinics that takes out all the guesswork. A clear step-by-step routine you can do with your horse. Let us know if you want to host a clinic in your area. These are primarily taught by Kris, but co-created with Sid’s guidance.
Sid has mentored several interns over the years.
